New company? Download the ledger setup file too and import it first (Import, then Masters).QuickBooks Desktop needs both account names exactly as they are in your chart of accounts.
QuickBooks makes any account it doesn’t know into a new bank account, so check the spelling.- Runs in your browser

- CSV in, QFX out
01 / Why convert
Plenty of banks only export CSV, and Quicken wants Web Connect (.qfx). This converts the CSV, whatever its columns, into a QFX file Quicken links to your account.
02 / What carries over
From CSV to QFX, field by field.
What the CSV file can hold, and where it goes in the QFX file.
| In the CSV file | In the QFX file |
|---|---|
| Date | Kept |
| Amount (money in and out) | Kept |
| Payee or description | Payee (32 characters), full text in the memo |
| Memo (extra text) | Kept |
| Check or reference number | Kept |
| Bank’s transaction ID (FITID) | Not in a CSV file |
| Running balance | Ending balance only |
| Account number | Not in a CSV file |
| Currency | Kept |
| Category | QFX has no place for it |
| Credit card (not a bank account) | Not in a CSV file |
03 / Importing it
Importing the QFX file.
Quicken for Windows
- File, then File Import, then Web Connect (.QFX) File.
- Link it to your existing account when Quicken asks.
Quicken for Mac
- File, then Import, then Bank or Brokerage File, and pick the .qfx file.
QuickBooks Online
- It takes .qfx files too: Link account, then Upload from file.
04 / The CSV file
Getting a CSV file.
Plain text, one transaction per line, values separated by commas (or semicolons, tabs or pipes). Every bank uses its own columns.
- Online banking: Transactions, then Download or Export, then CSV (sometimes called “comma separated” or “spreadsheet”).
- Card and money apps (Amex, Monzo, Revolut, Starling and the like) export CSV from their statements screen.
Have a bank statement PDF instead? The bank statement converter reads it in your browser too.
05 / Good to know
The details that matter.
- Columns are matched by their headings, or by what is in them when there are none. They are shown before you download, and a wrong guess is one click to change.
- When the file has a balance column, every row is checked against it, and an “Opening balance” row becomes the opening balance.
- If money out is written as positive amounts (American Express does this), tick the swap box.
- Dates like 03/04/2026 can mean March or April. The order is worked out from the file (a day over 12 decides it), and you can switch it when nothing does.
- Converting the same file again gives the same transaction IDs, so QuickBooks and Quicken skip what they already have.
- Quicken may label the account “Wells Fargo”. Web Connect files need a bank id from Intuit’s list, and this is the one most converters use; the transactions are yours.
- Payee names are cut to 32 characters, the OFX limit QuickBooks enforces; the full text goes in the memo. Text is written as plain ASCII, which older importers need.
06 / Questions
Straight answers.
Is this CSV to QFX converter free?
Yes, for 2 files a day with no account. A free account (just your email, no password) gives you 2 more, and paid plans have no daily limit. It runs in your browser, and nothing is stored.
Is my CSV file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and the QFX file is written by code running in this browser tab. Neither is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert a file.
Will Quicken import the same transactions twice?
No, as long as you import the same transactions: every transaction has an ID (FITID), and Quicken skips IDs it already has. Converting the same file again gives the same IDs.
My CSV file has different column names. Will it work?
Yes. Columns are matched by their headings in English and several other languages, or by their contents when there are no headings. You see the match before downloading and can change any column. Single amount columns, separate money in/out columns, and Dr/Cr markers all work.
Does it work for credit cards?
Yes. You can also set the account type to Credit card in the panel, and the QFX file is written as a card statement.

Other files, same idea.
