/ How it works
Your statement is opened, read, checked and saved inside your own browser. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. Here is every step, and a one-minute test that lets you see it for yourself.
01
The PDF opens in this tab, password and all.
02
Dates, descriptions, amounts and balances become rows.
03
Every row is added up against the statement’s own balance.
04
Your file is made here and lands in your Downloads.

02 / Step by step
Nothing here needs a server. That’s not a setting we switched off; the converter was built this way from the first line.
Your browser opens the statement with a PDF reader that runs inside the page. If your bank locked it with a password, you type it into the converter and it is used right there to open the file. It isn’t saved and it isn’t sent.
The converter finds the transaction table: the dates, the descriptions, the money in and out, and the running balance. Descriptions that wrap onto a second line are joined back together, and dates become real dates your spreadsheet can sort. Scanned pages are read with text recognition that also runs on your device (paid plans).
A statement has one rule that never bends: opening balance, plus money in, minus money out, equals closing balance. Where the statement prints a running balance, every single row is checked against it. If something is off, you see which row, before you download. Nothing is changed to make it add up.
The file is written inside your browser and saved straight to your Downloads folder: Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo and .iif), Quicken (.qfx and .qif), OFX, a Xero CSV or Tally XML. The result panel ends with a line that says it plainly: Bytes uploaded: 0.
03 / The balance check
Most converters hand you a file and hope. Statements have one rule that never bends: opening plus credits minus debits equals closing. We run that check on every file, and show you the result.

You’re shown the exact row before you export, not after you’ve filed.
04 / Check it yourself
Every browser can show you each request a page makes. Open that list, convert a statement, and look for your file leaving. It takes about a minute.

First time only: Safari, Settings, Advanced, then tick “Show features for web developers”. After the shortcut, click Network. Then press the clear button (a circle with a line through it) to start with an empty list.
Keep the panel open and drop a statement into the converter below. Download the result if you like.
Each line is your browser downloading the converter’s own code from our site (method GET). Sending your file would be a POST about the size of your PDF. You won’t find one.
On a phone? Developer tools need a computer. The converter on your phone is the same code, so checking it once on a computer covers both.

usagePOSTOnly when you’re signed in. A few words about the file: its name, size, page count and whether it balanced. That is how your daily count and history work. Never the file or its numbers.
google-analytics.comVisitsGoogle Analytics counts which pages are opened. It doesn’t get your file, its rows or its name.
/vendor/…GETScanned PDFs only (paid plans). The text-recognition engine, about 7 MB, downloads once from our site to your browser.

05 / What we keep
Here is everything involved in a conversion, where it lives, and what reaches us. The only thing we ever hold is a label, and only if you sign in. You can delete it from your dashboard at any time.
06 / Questions
Still curious? Read who built this and why, or email hello@safebankstatementconverter.com.
Yes. It runs in the phone’s browser the same way, and the file is never uploaded from a phone either. It is the same code as on a computer, so the Network-tab check above covers your phone too.
The first time, your browser downloads the converter’s own code, including the PDF reader, from our site. After that it is ready, so the next statements go faster. That download comes to you; nothing about your file goes up.
Signed out, a small counter in your own browser counts your free conversions (2 a day, up to 20 pages each). Signed in, our server counts them from a label (the file name, its size, the page count and whether it balanced), which is how you get 4 a day and statements up to 50 pages. Never the statement itself.
No. They never reach us, so there is nothing for us to see, store, lose or sell. Even if someone broke into our database, there would be no statements in it.
On the paid plans, the converter reads scanned pages with text recognition (OCR). Your browser downloads the recognition engine from our own site, about 7 MB and only once, and reads the pages on your device. It is slower than a normal PDF, and the balance check still runs on the result.
You are shown which row breaks the balance, before you download, and nothing is changed to make it add up. If a file you paid for doesn’t reconcile and it can’t be fixed, you don’t pay for it: see the refund policy. Refund policy →
