01 / Why convert

An account’s transactions from a QuickBooks Desktop IIF file, as a Quicken Web Connect file.

02 / What carries over

From IIF to QFX, field by field.

What the IIF file can hold, and where it goes in the QFX file.

03 / Importing it

Importing the QFX file.

Quicken for Windows

  1. File, then File Import, then Web Connect (.QFX) File.
  2. Link it to your existing account when Quicken asks.

Quicken for Mac

  1. File, then Import, then Bank or Brokerage File, and pick the .qfx file.

QuickBooks Online

  1. It takes .qfx files too: Link account, then Upload from file.

04 / The IIF file

Getting a QuickBooks Desktop IIF file.

Intuit Interchange Format: tab-separated text QuickBooks Desktop imports. Each transaction is a TRNS line and its split (SPL) lines, which add up to zero.

  • Point-of-sale, payroll and other tools that “export to QuickBooks Desktop” often write IIF.
  • QuickBooks Desktop itself exports lists as IIF (File, Utilities, Export).

Have a bank statement PDF instead? The bank statement converter reads it in your browser too.

05 / Good to know

The details that matter.

  • Dates like 03/04/2026 can mean March or April. The order is worked out from the file (a day over 12 decides it), and you can switch it when nothing does.
  • You pick the account whose transactions you want; bank and card accounts are offered first. Each transaction’s other side becomes its category.
  • Converting the same file again gives the same transaction IDs, so QuickBooks and Quicken skip what they already have.
  • Quicken may label the account “Wells Fargo”. Web Connect files need a bank id from Intuit’s list, and this is the one most converters use; the transactions are yours.
  • Payee names are cut to 32 characters, the OFX limit QuickBooks enforces; the full text goes in the memo. Text is written as plain ASCII, which older importers need.

06 / Questions

Straight answers.

Is this IIF to QFX converter free?

Yes, for 2 files a day with no account. A free account (just your email, no password) gives you 2 more, and paid plans have no daily limit. It runs in your browser, and nothing is stored.

Is my IIF file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and the QFX file is written by code running in this browser tab. Neither is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert a file.

Will Quicken import the same transactions twice?

No, as long as you import the same transactions: every transaction has an ID (FITID), and Quicken skips IDs it already has. Converting the same file again gives the same IDs.

How are dates read?

IIF files write dates in the order of the program that made them (MM/DD in the US, DD/MM in most other places). The order is worked out from the dates themselves, and you can switch it in the panel when nothing in the file decides it.

Does it work for credit cards?

Yes. You can also set the account type to Credit card in the panel, and the QFX file is written as a card statement.
