Importing the OFX file.

Xero

  1. Open the bank account, then Manage account, then Import a statement, and pick the .ofx file.

Sage, MYOB, GnuCash, Moneydance

  1. Look for Import statement, Import bank file or File, then Import, then OFX/QFX.

04 / The Tally XML file

Getting a Tally XML file.

TallyPrime’s and Tally.ERP 9’s exchange format. Each voucher has ledger lines that balance: a debit is written as a negative amount.

  • TallyPrime: open the Day Book (or the bank ledger’s vouchers), press Alt+E (Export), set Format to XML (Data Interchange), then Export.

Have a bank statement PDF instead? The bank statement converter reads it in your browser too.

05 / Good to know

The details that matter.

  • Export from TallyPrime as XML (Data Interchange). You pick the ledger: bank ledgers come first. Cancelled and optional vouchers are left out, and Tally’s UTF-16 files are read as they are.
  • Payee names are cut to 32 characters, the OFX limit QuickBooks enforces; the full text goes in the memo. Text is written as plain ASCII, which older importers need.

06 / Questions

Straight answers.

Is this Tally XML to OFX converter free?

Yes, for 2 files a day with no account. A free account (just your email, no password) gives you 2 more, and paid plans have no daily limit. It runs in your browser, and nothing is stored.

Is my Tally XML file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and the OFX file is written by code running in this browser tab. Neither is sent to a server. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert a file.

Which ledger becomes the account?

The bank ledger: ledgers with bank details come first, then any ledger on the bank or cash side of payments and receipts. You can pick another in the panel.

Does it work for credit cards?

Yes. You can also set the account type to Credit card in the panel, and the OFX file is written as a card statement.
